Lung cancer is the second most common cancer among men and the third most common cancer among women in Malaysia, as highlighted in the Malaysia National Cancer Registry Report 2017 – 2021. Despite its prevalence, many cases continue to be detected only at advanced stages, leading to lower chances of survival and heavier healthcare and financial burdens.
In response to this critical health issue, the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) with the support of MCIS Life and the Ministry of Health today officially launched NCSM LungShield, an initiative under the National Lung Health Initiative. The launch was officiated by the Minister of Health Malaysia, YB Datuk Seri Haji Dr. Dzulkefly Bin Ahmad, at Hilton Hotel, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
NCSM LungShield is a comprehensive lung cancer screening and diagnostic package that combines AI-assisted chest X-ray screening by the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) with LungLife, a complementary insurance protection to support screenings required throughout the cancer detection journey. Early detection through this technology offers individuals the best chance for timely and effective treatment.
Beyond screening, the package provides a complete diagnostic pathway—from the initial chest X-ray to advanced staging using Computed Tomography of the Thorax, Abdomen, and Pelvis (CT TAP) and immunohistochemistry, ensuring patients receive clear and accurate results.
To reduce the financial strain that often accompanies a cancer diagnosis, NCSM Lungshield also includes complementary insurance plan through LungLife. This offers coverage of up to RM10,000 for one year, easing the cost of screening and diagnostic services while giving individuals peace of mind. Priced at just RM129 for the first 10,000 sign-ups, the LungShield package, valued at RM10,000, offers Malaysians an affordable way to access comprehensive lung health screening and diagnosis. After the early bird phase, the package will be available at its full price of RM179, enabling more Malaysians to take charge of their lung health proactively.
“Lung cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer deaths in Malaysia, largely due to late detection. By making advanced screening more affordable and accessible, initiatives like LungShield play a critical role in saving lives and reducing the burden on our healthcare system. I commend NCSM and MCIS Life for this collaborative effort that truly aligns with our national health agenda,” said YB Datuk Seri Haji Dr. Dzulkefly bin Ahmad, Minister of Health Malaysia.
“Our mission at NCSM has always been to ensure that no Malaysian is left behind in the fight against cancer. With LungShield, we are not only providing cutting-edge technology for early detection but also financial support to ease the journey of those at risk. This holistic approach gives Malaysians both the medical tools and the peace of mind they need to face lung health challenges,” said Kol. Bersekutu (PA) Professor Dr. Murallitharan Munisamy, Managing Director of NCSM.
“MCIS Life is proud to stand alongside NCSM in this important mission to make early detection and protection accessible to all Malaysians. LungShield reflects the power of strategic partnership- combining NCSM’s expertise in cancer prevention and screening with our commitment to provide financial support for early detection and diagnosis. Together, we are enabling more Malaysians to take proactive steps for their lung health, ensuring they have both the means to detect early and the confidence to face the journey ahead,” said Prasheem Seebran, Chief Executive Officer of MCIS Life.
