- What inspired you to become an oncologist?
I’ve always been passionate about helping others, and during my medical training, I found myself drawn to oncology because of the complexity and impact of cancer. It’s a field where science and compassion intersect and being able to help patients navigate one of the toughest challenges in life is incredibly fulfilling.
- What do you find most rewarding about working with cancer patients?
The most rewarding part is seeing patients overcome the odds. While cancer treatment can be grueling, there are moments of hope and recovery that truly stand out. Helping patients and their families through those moments and witnessing their resilience is the most fulfilling aspect of my work.
- How do you approach building relationships with your patients?
I believe that trust is key in any doctor-patient relationship. I always try to be empathetic, transparent, and supportive, making sure patients understand their diagnosis, treatment options, and potential outcomes. It’s important to involve the patient in decisions, ensuring they feel heard and empowered.
- What advancements in cancer treatment are you most excited about?
There have been tremendous strides in immunotherapy and precision medicine. These approaches focus on tailoring treatments to the individual patient’s genetic makeup and harnessing the body’s immune system to fight cancer more effectively. The possibilities are exciting, and they’ve already led to significant improvements in outcomes for many patients.
- What advice would you give to someone newly diagnosed with cancer?
I always tell patients to take one step at a time. It can feel overwhelming, but it’s important to gather information, lean on your support system, and stay focused on the path forward. Ask questions, be proactive about your care, and remember that you’re not alone — there are many resources available to help you throughout the journey.
